Abodo's Vulcan offers the visual warmth and character traditionally associated with old growth timbers, while delivering a more sustainable and consistent solution for modern architecture. Unlike old growth timber, which is sourced from slow-growing, ancient forests with limited resources, Abodo's feature timbers are crafted from rapidly renewable New Zealand plantation-grown Radiata pine and enhanced through advanced thermal modification. The result is a stable, durable timber with rich natural tones, superior dimensional performance, and fewer natural defects, providing architects with the aesthetic appeal of mature timber alongside reliable specification, responsible sourcing, and long-term environmental benefits.

Abodo offers a range of high-performance timber solutions designed for Cladding, Screening, Panelling, Decking, Shingles and Joinery applications. Our collection combines responsibly sourced New Zealand Radiata Pine with proprietary heat tempering (thermal modification) processes that enhance durability and stability.
Each product is designed to provide a natural timber aesthetic while meeting the performance demands of contemporary architecture. Architects can select from a variety of profiles, finishes, and weathering options to achieve their desired design intent.

Abodo's sustainability approach focuses on renewable forestry, responsible manufacturing, and long-term carbon storage. Our timber products are manufactured from rapidly renewable New Zealand Radiata Pine sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Abodo's Vulcan solid timber is proven to store 7.56kg+ of carbon for every square metre, more than 2x carbon emitted during the manufacturing process.
As a natural material, timber stores carbon absorbed during tree growth, helping reduce the overall embodied carbon of buildings when compared with many conventional construction materials. We support our sustainability claims through independently verified environmental data and reporting.

Radiata Pine is recognised for its rapid growth rate and efficient carbon sequestration. Because the trees grow quickly and are harvested from plantation forests, they can provide a highly renewable source of construction timber with a favourable carbon profile.
Fast growing sustainable managed plantation forestry is one way to store more carbon from the atmosphere faster and Abodo's thermal modification technologies are designed to enhance durability and longevity, supporting long-term carbon storage while reducing the need for resource-intensive replacement cycles.
For architects conducting embodied carbon assessments, our EPD documentation provides verified data that can be used within project calculations and certification frameworks.

Abodo timber is designed to age naturally and beautifully in exterior environments. Like all natural wood products, its appearance will evolve when exposed to sunlight, rain and changing weather conditions. Over time, the timber will silver off if left uncoated and gradually lighten to a natural silver-grey patina. The rate of weathering depends on factors such as building orientation, exposure to UV light, rainfall, and local environmental conditions. More exposed elevations will typically weather faster and more evenly than sheltered areas.
For projects were maintaining colour consistency is important, Abodo recommends the use of our Protector coating. This finish helps preserve the original appearance for longer, reduce surface checking, improve dimensional stability, and enhance long-term weathering performance. As coatings naturally wear over time, maintenance intervals will vary depending on the level of exposure but typically fall within a 2-4 year cycle. Regular cleaning and appropriate maintenance help ensure the timber continues to perform and age as intended.
To help architects, designers and homeowners understand how different products age in real-world conditions, Abodo's Watch Me Weather playlist shows timber weathering over time.
