WEBINAR / The Future of Wood and Carbon Neutrality

Join us for an ARB and RIBA accredited CPD learning webinar with Abodo, Autex Acoustics and Teulo.

We're hosting our first UK webinar event, with our friends at Autex Acoustics and Teulo.

At this free, two hour ARB (Architects Registration Board) and RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) accredited CPD (Continuing Professional Development) learning webinar, you'll hear from Abodo, Autex Acoustics and a keynote speaker.

Yes, this event is CPD accredited!

  • Environmental Sustainability Competency with ARB
  • RIBA accredited through Teulo

Join us on 27 August at 10 am, BST, and you will receive a CPD Learning Certificate upon the conclusion of the event.

Abodo / The Future of Wood

In this CPD educational webinar, Abodo will share an in-depth look at the Future of Wood and thermal modification alongside the implications of specifying thermally modified timbers for homes. In particular, how thermally modified timbers impact the thermal conductivity of a home and its benefits for the inhabitant's health. Abodo discuss their unique thermal modification process and the use of thermally modified timber when cladding a home. Abodo also shares how managed forests play an important part in the biodiversity solution.

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand reduction in carbon that results from utilising sustainable timber alternatives to tropical hardwoods.
  • Knowledge of how to use timber when thinking about designing with carbon reduction in mind.
  • Understanding what thermal modification means and how that impacts durability in the built environment.

Sonn Studio / Small Scale Approaches to Lowering Embodied Carbon

This talk explores how small-scale developments can contribute to carbon neutrality. Often, small projects are overlooked, perceived as having little overall impact. This talk challenges that assumption, demonstrating how small changes can significantly affect the overall and lifecycle embodied carbon of a project through a fabric-first approach.

Learning outcomes:

  • What is embodied carbon?
  • Overall impact of reducing embodied carbon
  • 5 key approaches to reducing embodied carbon with small scale developments

Speaker bio: Tim Robinson, Director + Architect Sonn Studio, BA (Hons), M Arch, ARB, RIBA

Tim graduated from Leeds University with Distinction and went to work for an award winning UK practice specialising in refurbishment, workspace and education building. For a short period, Tim was one the youngest qualified architects in the UK and was quickly promoted to Associate at the age of 26. Tim has designed and led multiple award-winning projects with a speciality in high quality refurbishment and expertise in combining creativity and practical craftsmanship. Tim founded Sonn in 2024 with Co-director Phoebe Laing.

Autex Acoustics / Building a Low Carbon Future

How can the building sector tackle the issue of embodied carbon and help build a low carbon future?

This informative CPD session will provide an introduction to building sector emissions, both operational and embodied carbon and best practices for low embodied carbon design.

Learning outcomes:

  • The impacts of climate change and what targets are in place to limit its damage
  • The role of the building sector on climate change
  • The growing importance of embodied carbon over a building’s lifecycle
  • Moving towards low carbon and carbon neutral materials
  • Net-zero roadmaps to achieve net-zero by 20D
  • Design considerations for reducing whole-of-life embodied carbon

Speaker bio: Emma Astill, Architecture & Design Consultant

Emma is an A&D Consultant at Autex Acoustics, based in their London office. With a background in textiles and lighting, she brings a unique, design-led perspective to acoustic specification.
